Posted on January 07, '11 by Kim Vo.

We just wanted to send out a quick thank you to all of you that placed an order in 2010. We launched in November 2010 and already received orders from all over the US! It's good to know that there are baby hat wearin' kids all over the nation. Here's an interesting little graphic of where our orders came from. So cool!

Tips for a Newborn Photoshoot

Posted on April 01, '10 by Albert Vo.

In addition to handling all the techie stuff that comes along with running a online store, I get to do much of the photography on our site!

Many of our customers purchase our baby hats to use as photography props for their newborn photo-shoots. So I thought it would be a good idea to write a quick post about some tips and tricks I've picked up over the years for all you baby hat loving DIYing photographers out there.

1. Patience

This may be the single most importing aspect of baby photography. Babies are unpredictable and you have to be willing to make adjustments to your plans, take feeding breaks, make sure you've set out plenty of time for the shoot. So don't forget, be patient.

2. Compose

Portraits, whether it be for adults or kids, generally look better when there isn't too much going on in the picture. Make sure to pay attention to background clutter, and how you compose your picture. Use depth of field effects to emphasize the best part of the picture, your baby! Use empty space wisely to make an interesting composition. Google: rule of two-thirds.

3. Props

Let's face it, most of the time, you can't tell if the baby is a boy or a girl. Use props such as one of our cute baby hats, wardrobe, or use background color to lead the viewer to believe that it's a boy or a girl. Use blankets and pillows to give a sense of warmth and coziness.

4. Pose

If your baby is still a newborn, you have much more freedom to pose them because they can barely move. =) Take advantage of this because it wont last long! Think up interesting poses that show the cutest features of your baby. Get on flickr and look at what other photographers have done to get ideas.

5. Lighting

Turn off that on-camera flash unless you know exactly what you are doing. Choose a location with soft natural light such as near a window with diffused sunlight shining through your curtains. Take pictures from multiple angles to get different lighting results.

I hope these tips help someone out there. Happy hat shopping!
